Bowen Peak Ltd accepted to Referral for Fast-Track

The fast track proposal for Ben Lomond Reserve has been referred by Minister of Infrastructure Chris Bishop after two failed attempts and no backing from the community.
The Bowen Peak Ltd application consists of a two route gondola, a new ski hill without any snow (riddle us that), a massive base building and lodge in a fragile alpine ecosystem, a retail and hospitality precinct in a clear flooding and natural hazard zone, plus 175 large chalet style homes that, let’s be honest, are unlikely to be ‘affordable’ for locals.
Bowen Peak Ltd has done no meaningful engagement with iwi, local community groups or QLDC, has no support from council or ORC councillors for the proposal, and has no real interest in the future of our town or basin beyond lining their own pockets.
Queenstown Lakes district councillor Jon Mitchell said it was a plan that raised “more questions than solutions”.
